Why Your Way of Thinking Isn’t Getting You What You Want
The renowned inspirational author Esther Hicks has made available many teachings from “Abraham” which is Hicks’ name for what she identifies as “Infinite Intelligence. Abraham speaks through Hicks by means of channelling. One of these teachings is the Law of Attraction which, simplified, is the belief that if you are focused and in a state of allowing, you can draw to you that which you desire through your thoughts. This principle, if I can call it that, has some truth in it. In fact, long before the Abraham channelling there was the saying, “Be careful what you ask for. You’re liable to get it.”
It’s the “liable to get it” that is of interest to me. The saying clearly does not state that you will certainly get what you desire. Only that you may get it. Perhaps one aspect of the Law of Attraction as described by Abraham can clarify this discrepancy between intending and manifesting
Abraham teaches that there are two ways of manifesting desire. First, through unwavering focus. Second, through profound emotion or passion. The former is much harder to accomplish since the “unwavering” is a literal requirement. In fact, the slightest deviation in focus of thought from the object of your desire and you may as well forget manifesting it. In fact, that singularity of focus must exist from the moment you first desire until the time that the manifestation occurs. How many of us can do that?
Sure, we are all able to think repeatedly and often about someone or something, an outcome we want to occur. In fact, we often obsess over such things in our thinking. Consider the broken relationship where one partner continues to think about the other and hope for reconciliation long after the relationship has ended. But here’s the rub: that thinking is never without its distractions. And since the slightest deviation of focus is all that it takes to interrupt the Law of Attraction, its almost always the case that what we desire does not occur.
The second, and more likely means of manifestation by the Law of Attraction, is though heightened emotion or passion. For example, the mother whose child is trapped under the wheel of a car who is somehow able to lift the vehicle in defiance of her limited strength or the laws of physics! How? Its her heightened emotion and passionate desire to save her child that allows her to manifest her desire.
Knowing how our thoughts and emotions are critical factors in manifesting the life we want, why is it that with such understanding so many of us stay stuck in repeated patterns of not getting what we want?
The answer can be found in science at the quantum level.
When one of the properties of quanta (matter, force and light) is measured, the others become unavailable to observation and measurement. Focused attention (observation/measurement) eliminates all other properties.
By repeatedly placing your thoughts on a specific person, thing or outcome, you may or may not manifest it but you definitely assure what you will not get. You will not get anything other than what you are focusing upon. And you may not even get that upon which you focus if your focus is anything less than perfect…meaning continual and uninterrupted for enough time to create that particular (particle) outcome.
Here’s the analogy: Let’s say you put a specific bait on the hook of a fishing line. That bait attracts only one specific fish. Then, into a vast sea stocked with a myriad of fish possibilities, you cast that line. If you are patient enough and still enough, you may hook that one specific fish for which the bait is intended. However, once that bait is employed and the line cast, it can only hook the fish you set out to catch. Any of the other fish are eliminated as a potential catch.
We live in a Sea of Infinite Possibility. The moment you place your thought on some outcome, you eliminate every other possible outcome…just as when all but the one observed property of quanta become unavailable for observation once the observed property is focused upon.
Here is what you need to contemplate: If you keep thinking about some person, thing or outcome and not getting what you want, it is likely because your focus and/or your passion are insufficient. But more importantly, be aware that in your continued, insufficient thinking you are eliminating every other possibility for happiness.
It all comes down to this: If you’re not getting what you want, perhaps it’s time to stop choosing and instead move on to allowing what may emerge from the Sea of Infinite Possibility.
Practically speaking, stop fishing with such poor bait. In fact, stop putting any bait on the rod at all. Just cast it. Then wait for what shows up.
